“March Street”in Dali -- National Intangible Cultural Heritage
In every March Dali is bestowed with exquisite scenery.An ancient legend is then brought back to the memory of the people under the Cangshan Mountain. According to the legend ,the Guanyin Bodhisattva defeated the evil Rakshasa. Since then on the 15th day of the third lunar month ,the Bai people get together at the foot of the Cangshan Mountain to offer their worship and gratitude to Bodhisattva.
Thus this day is called Gaunyin Festial and the venue Guanyin Street.
Time goes as flowing rivers,Guanyin Festival has turned into a grand gathering.Through the love for life people in Dali express their plain gratitude. The original purpose hasn’t been forgotten instead it continues till this day leading to the liveliness of this “March Street” that has lasted a thousand year .
