Wuli Village, meaning “the village in fog”in Chinese, is named so because of its topography: it’s usually “hidden” in fog. If you look at the village from afar, it is a mysterious sight.
Wuli is a quiet and beautiful village, located north of Bingzhongluo town, Gongshan county, Nujiang prefecture, Yunnan province. There are about 60 families in the village, including Tibetan, Nu and Lisu ethnic groups.
The village sits on a gentle slope which meet mountains on three sides and Nujiang on the last one. With such amazing views, it’s a firm favourite with those wanting to capture some awe-inspiring photos. Little wonder why it is regarded as “the place only for gods”.
In the middle of farmland, there are more than 30 households living in primitive surroundings. You will not find any roads, vehicles or state-of-the-art facilities here.
Passing “Chaohong Bridge” and turning right, walking along with the Ancient Tea Horse Road, tourists can be stunned by the amazing landscapes.
Wuli Village is one stop on the road, and it is the only way to Tibet along the Nujiang. The Ancient Tea Horse Road mainly refers to an ancient international trade route connecting China's inland regions, northwestern Shaanxi and Gansu provinces, southwestern Sichuan and Yunnan province and Tibet. Horse caravans served as the main means of transportation at a time of the tea-for-horse trade, hence the trade route's name. The ancient road retains its original style.
Attractions:
Wuli villagers live a self-sufficient and pollution-free life. The only access to people and goods is the ancient tea-horse road cut out of the cliffs.
Visitors should be very careful while walking along it. Under the cliff there is the deep and fast-moving Nu River.
In the early morning, the village is a vision of white. It slowly disappears, as the sun casts its rays on the valley. Trees, houses and fields begin to regain their shapes. The sky, the earth, and the people make for a harmonious scene. In summer, the rice fields in Wuli Village grow luxuriantly.
It is the kind of place that makes you want to escape from chaotic urban life for good. The peace of mind that you can’t find anywhere else.
