Happy Munaozongge Festival, Singing and Dancing in Ethnic Style
The Munaozongge Festival is the grandest and most traditional festival of the Jingpo people, living in the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of western Yunnan Province.
Tens of thousands of people dance on a large-scale, creating a powerful atmosphere. The Munaozongge is the national carnival in western China. Munaozongge is also the festival of Jingpo people to celebrate good fortune and harvest.
The Munaozongge Festival is generally held around the 15th day of the lunar calendar. The event usually runs for three days and is now included in the first list of national intangible cultural heritage.
With the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture holding the grand event, the Yunnan Nationalities Village in Kunming will also hold the activities in the Jingpo Village from 22 to 25 February. The activities include traditional sacrifices, opening ceremony, carnival activities, Jingpo leaf banquet and a food street.
Residents of Jingpo prepare wine for every visitor, sending a blessing to the tourists. The main activity during the morning of 22 February is traditional sacrifices. A grand ceremony is held on the morning of the 23rd, it is the officially start for the Munaozongge activities.
