Tengchong Travel Guide
Tengchong, Preserving the Last Autumn
Tengchong is a county-level city in Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, bordered by Myanmar to the west, and southwest of Mangshi and Ruili. Known for having "99 volcanoes and 88 hot springs," Tengchong offers much more than that. Life here moves slowly, surrounded by picturesque scenery yet filled with the hustle and bustle of daily life. The most fitting description is "clear weather and leisurely scenery." Whether you have two or ten days to spare, Tengchong offers numerous landscapes to enjoy and many hot springs to relax in.
Even though winter is approaching, if you still want to experience autumn this year, Tengchong is a must-visit, especially for its gingko trees! You might ask, why go to Tengchong when ginkgo trees are everywhere? Because, only in Tengchong, ginkgo trees are exceptionally abundant, with what resembles golden curtains and walls adorning the entire view. This spectacle can be witnessed in a hundred-year-old village called Ginkgo Village.
In mid-November, Ginkgo Village starts to display its brilliant golden hues. The ancient town, Shunshun stone road, and the morning market exude a lively atmosphere. Antique objects in deep-seated old houses recount the stories of the past.
One village, called Dong Ginkgo Village in Gudong Town, boasts over ten thousand ginkgo trees. With its lime-coloured stone walls, vibrant golden ginkgo leaves, and a clear blue sky, the scenery portrays three colours, creating a beautiful painting. Residents live around the trees, building houses with stones. The golden ground is complemented by wooden tables and chairs. Red lanterns hang at the entrances of farm courtyards, forming a harmonious combination of "village in the forest, forest in the home, and people in the painting."
It is recommended to enter through the main gate, first exploring Ginkgo King and Ginkgo Forest, then walking along the main road to Chenjia Village. Finally, choose a favourite small courtyard to sit down and enjoy the slow rural life.
Mid to late November to mid-December is the best time to appreciate the ginkgo trees, making it the peak season for Tengchong. Compared to other scenic spots in Tengchong, Ginkgo Village has a more commercial atmosphere. Because here, autumn lingers until December, making it a place worth visiting!
