While most of China is experiencing cold winds and snow-covered landscapes, Tengchong in Yunnan is a unique winter beauty. Bathed in winter sunlight, the landscape is filled with green mountains, serene rivers, ancient towns, and vibrant flowers, transforming winter into a spring-like paradise.
1. Rapeseed Flowers
The best time to admire rapeseed flowers is from January to March each year. The golden rapeseed flowers, petal by petal, cluster by cluster, present a confident and self-sustaining beauty. The vast expanse of blooming rapeseed flowers creates a magnificent scene, as if one is in a painting. This year, Tengchong's rapeseed flowers have added vitality to the winter landscape. Recently, the rapeseed flowers in Dasha, Dian Tan Town, Tengchong City, Yunnan Province, have been in full bloom, attracting bees and birds to dance among the golden sea of flowers. The golden flower sea resembles beautiful ribbons, adding a splendid view to the winter land.

Jietou Rapeseed Flower Sea is located in Jietou Town, Tengchong, just over an hour's drive from the county seat. You can drive or hire a car to reach it. The best time to enjoy the Jietou Rapeseed Flower Sea is from 10 February to 10 March each year. The nearby attraction, Longchuan River Drifting, is relatively close to the rapeseed flowers. The drifting route starts from Qu Stone Liren Jiawan, covering a total distance of 5.2 kilometres, taking approximately 1.5 hours to complete. Drifting down the river on a bamboo raft, surrounded by high mountains, abundant sunshine, and lush scenery, offers a unique experience.
Besides the rapeseed flower fields, Jietou also features a [Papermaking Museum]. Although not very large, the museum's clever design with wooden walls, glass, and bamboo roofs perfectly reflects the ancient charm. The six halls inside the museum each showcase traditional papermaking culture, and the handmade crafts available for sale are of great collectible value. Visitors can rest and enjoy tea on the museum's rooftop while taking in the beautiful view of Gaoligong Mountain in the distance.
In front of the ancient town, there are plentiful rapeseed flower fields, creating a feeling of the entire city being covered in golden splendour. It's easy to fall in love with this place in an instant!
2. Cherry Blossoms
Winter cherries bloom from late November to late December, covering entire trees in pink. The road becomes a romantic "flower street" adorned with clusters of colourful and diverse flowers. With no leaves yet, the trees are full of pink and white buds, creating a mist-like pink, pure and romantic, filtering the winter with a dreamy filter. When the wind blows, the petals fall like snow.

Tengchong Cherry Blossom Valley is located within the Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve, situated on the west bank of the Longchuan River. The area is frost-free throughout the year, with abundant rainfall, making it an ideal environment for cherry blossom growth. The Cherry Blossom Valley is abundant with more than 200 rare plants, and there are four forest hot springs in the valley, forming a typical high mountain canyon landscape. The hills are covered with pink wild cherry blossoms, golden larches, and distinct layers of "four seasons in one mountain."
